Dedicated 20 Amp, 120 Volt Circuit Installation for a Pool in South Plainfield, NJ
Here is a project we just completed in South Plainfield. It was installing the wiring for an above ground pool. A dedicated 20 amp 120volt circuit is required for this pool. We installed a convenience outlet on the house and then ran pvc pipe in a trench 18” deep to the pool motor. We installed a 4”x4” pressure treated post with a white pvc outer sleeve to enhance the beauty. We finished it off with a decorative white pvc cap. On the post we mounted a disconnect switch that will turn the pool motor on and off. This switch is really convenient when it’s time to clean the filter. It allows you to turn the motor off without having to unplug the motor from the twist lock receptacle. Unplugging and plugging in a twist lock can be difficult at times. Once we completed that we started to install the bonding for the pool. We dug a small trench around the entire pool. Then we installed a Continuous solid #8 copper wire around the entire pool. We tapped 4 screws that hold 4 lugs into the metal portion of the pool. Then we connected the bonding wire to them, the pool motor and the skimmer bond. That makes up the complete bonding system for the pool. The client chose to hand dig the trench himself. After we get pass the inspection from the township he will be able to backfill, seed and hay. The family is really excited about the upcoming summer!!
